Figure skating is an ice skating sport where you perform various lifts, jumps and pirouettes on an indoor ice hockey rink. In figure skating, you practice basic skating skills in addition to training strength, balance and agility on ice. Figure skating includes individual and pair competitions and is a fun and exciting sport. You can compete in several competitions like pairs skating, ice dance and synchro.
In figure skating competitions, you perform different combinations of steps, jumps and pirouettes using music of your choice. The competition consists of a short programme and a free-skating programme. In the short programme, predetermined steps and jumps are performed, while in the free-skating programme the athlete himself chooses the choreography. After completing both the short and the free programme, the judges will assess the degree of difficulty and execution and give points for performance.
