Handball is an indoor ball game, played on a pitch with goals at both ends. Two teams play, and the aim is to score as many goals as possible against the opposing team. Each team has seven players, one of which is the goalkeeper and the other six out on the pitch.

Handball is played using the hands. Within the goal area the keeper can stop the ball using any part of the body. The ball is passed amongst team members by throwing. The player in possession of the ball can take three steps before either throwing or bouncing the ball. Handball is a fast-moving game, and the teams are constantly switching from attack to defence. The game is split into two halves, each of thirty minutes. The highest scoring team wins the match and wins two points in the series. A draw gives each team one point.
