Gymnastics is the use of the body to perform a range of exercises, either on the feet or using various forms of apparatus. Gymnastics is a sport where participants compete either as individuals or as a team member. In gymnastics one trains up excellent physical control of the body, and training concentrates on flexibility, suppleness and strength.
Many gymnastics exercises are familiar from our childhood games, like jumping the horse, head over heels roll or turning cartwheels. Some exercises do not require apparatus and are carried out on the floor or a mat; others are more complicated and require apparatus. These are known as apparatus gymnastics, and encompass the parallel bars, horse, beam, and mat. In competitive events judges award points for difficulty, proficiency and style.
